Are you still looking for a cream that will actually do what it claims? Despite the marketing hype and fancy terms used in the advertisements there is a fundamental biological reason why they just can’t work. Here is a simplified explanation: -
Your skin is really several distinct layers that act together to give you a remarkable organ that very cleverly carries out a number of functions, such as – it breathes; it protects from you harmful elements; it stops your blood from escaping; it stretches as you move; it repairs itself quickly when damaged; it helps regulate your temperature; it even changes colour to help protect you from to much sun!
These layers all have technical names with the Epidermis being the part you can see. The cells in the middle layer (Dermis) do not normally replenish themselves as well as the cells in the other layers. This is due to various factors which include diet, historical exposure of the skin to toxins and climate. As you grow older the membrane separating the Dermis and Epidermis – known as the Dermis Epidermis Junction (DEJ) deforms and your skin can look like this: -
Note that the outer layer of skin hardly changes its thickness – all the wrinkles and creases are caused by changes in the Dermis. The DEJ acts as a clever barrier and stops bacteria, and other harmful molecules entering your body whilst still allowing your sweat to escape. Unfortunately it also prevents the ingredients of virtually all anti-ageing creams from getting to where they are needed. They just work on the outer layer and they might help with some of the smaller lines but don’t stand a chance with the deeper wrinkles and folds.
A small number of creams – such as Rejuvion – have found methods of penetrating the DEJ so they can help rebuild the Dermis, but the majority of them are merely very expensive ways of spending your money.
The key to effective skin improvement is to regenerate the Epidermis and encourage it to grow back to a consistent thickness.
